Precautions for non-destructive testing of ships - problems in the inspection process

Non-destructive testing of ships mainly includes visual inspection method, leakage detection method, radiation detection method, ultrasonic detection method, magnetic powder detection method, penetration detection method, eddy current detection method, acoustic emission method, x-ray detection method and the like. Therefore, there are many methods for non-destructive testing of ships, and the main items of detection are more complicated. Therefore, setting up a testing plan in advance can help us many unnecessary steps and costs. The following are some precautions in the ship's non-destructive testing process:

1. Non-destructive testing personnel shall perform X-ray shooting of the weld according to the number of films taken by the on-site surveyor and the position of the film. The surface of the weld to be inspected shall be free from visible cracks, pores, slag inclusions, excessive undercutting, unwelded welding, etc., and shall remove weld slag, splash and rust. If there is a problem with the film quality, you should take relevant measures.

2. Each X-ray film must be dated, numbered, ship name, lead coded and marked position, but care should be taken not to interfere with the display of welds and the assessment of defects. When the weld is continuous X-ray film, the overlapping length of adjacent films shall be not less than 10 mm, and the joint shall be indicated by a lead mark.

3. In order to improve the quality of the film, appropriate scattering lines should be taken.

4. In order to prevent radiation damage to the human body during the shooting process, the shooting time should be determined as the off-hours of the shipyard.

5. The ship surveyor must be present when performing non-destructive testing. If necessary, the sensitivity of the equipment (such as ultrasound) should be checked to ensure that the number and scope of tests are in compliance with the specifications and previously established plans.

6. According to the actual situation of the ship and the shipbuilding enterprise, the on-site surveyor can request the inspection company to expand the shooting range and the number of shots, and if necessary, conduct spot checks on the suspect parts.

7. For parts and defects that are difficult to detect by radiography, other non-destructive testing methods can be used to achieve complementarity.

Non-destructive testing technology has a wide range of applications in the design, production, use and repair of ships. Special non-destructive testing technology is an important guarantee for the quality of shipbuilding. It reflects the establishment of a complete non-destructive testing program during the shipbuilding process. It is very necessary. With the continuous development of China's shipbuilding industry, the application of non-destructive testing technology in shipbuilding will become more and more extensive. The effective non-destructive testing steps, cycle and cost of ships can help ship ships to achieve better economic benefits.
